Saturday Neighborhood Readiness Net :

QST, QST, QST, calling all stations. This is <CALLSIGN>, my name is <NAME> and I will
be net control for the neighborhood emergency readiness checkin.

We will pause for any emergency or priority traffic. At this time is there any emergency or priority traffic?

This net is open to all licensed GMRS operators and their family. You do
not need to be a club member to participate, and are encouraged to do
so.

The purpose of this net is to monitor the coverage and
participation on this repeater. The goal is to have at least one
operator in every neighborhood within the coverage area of this repeater checking in
the event of an actual emergency or severe weather event. This check in
happens each Saturday around Noon after the emergency sirens finish sounding. This
session is check in only and will only take a few minutes.

To check in, please state your call sign clearly,

Un-key your mic to make sure you did not double with someone else,

Then re-key and say your call sign phonetically along with your name, neighbor hood or common cross road, and your city.

For example:

<CALLSIGN>

<PHONETICS>, <NAME> in the <NEIGHBORHOOD>, of
<CITY>.

I will be logging check-ins so please speak slowly and clearly. With all
of that out of the way, anyone that wishes to check in, please do so now.

*****************************************

*Use what ever check in process you prefer. You can use the sector or quadrant method, you could do open check ins, or you could even call role call from a list you already have then combine that with and open check in at the end. I personally like that method because I think if someone hears there call sign they may be more likely to check in that just listen.

After you have decided how you will take check ins, you can address the way you would like to hear the check in. For example some people prefer just name and call, some prefer it phonetically and some like to have both. I think it comes down to how fast you write and how well you hear. You may also request a location to be included as well as status, i.e. mobile, base, or handheld.

You may choose to take any traffic at the time of check in or if you want to stretch thing out a bit you can hold a second round for those with traffic. You can also categorize or prioritize traffic, by calling for club traffic first, then general traffic or announcements, you can also do a 73’s round at the end before closing the net.

Also remember to ID every 10 minutes as usual, if you happen to go over the ten minute mark its not a big deal just try to keep that in mind. That is also a good time to ask for anyone who would like to re-check for another turn to speak, or for late or missed check ins.

At first all this stuff can be stress full to keep track of but remember to have fun with it, and do what works for you. Go with what ever feels natural, not everyone speaks the same way so use the script above making edits where necessary, feel free to come up with your own format for net control. After you have done it a few times you’ll figure out what works best for you. Some people can wing it but I have to write down what I’m going to say or otherwise I’m all over the place.
