Thank you Richard for the signal report while I was testing out my mobile rig down in Lexington, OK! Per mygmrs.com, I was just on the very edge of the service area of the repeater, but with a yagi and a 50 watt radio I was able to hear and be heard clearly! This is a very fun and addictive hobby!

803 thank you for the signal report I acquired a couple 7 element yagi antennas for 450 to 470 MHZ going to work great I think
(About to find out if this forum support markdown formatting…)
As discussed during the Net this evening, I created a google drive that has some documents from the facebook group. Anyone should be able to view the files at the link whether they have a google account or not. If anyone would like to contribute, contact me and I will get them set up with a folder.
As of now, the folder structure is OK GMRS Club -> Knowledge Center -> 20240825 WSDU803 -> all the files I uploaded. If people contribute, would prefer people to follow the format YYYYMMDD CALLSIGN for easily know when items were added and who contributed to them.
Happy to add other docs and re-org if the google folder gets busy.
Thanks for posting this, I noticed in one of the documents that there’s a tech net on Wednesdays at 8pm. Is this every week? Looking to get more familiar with gmrs stuff and maybe some hardware upgrades in the future.
If that was the “Make shift TechNetScript”, Wed at 8 is just a placeholder. Although they could hold their Net up in Tulsa at that time, I dont know, but I dont think they do.

Howdy Y’all,
Well, thought I’d share where I talk from most of the time were at home. Base is a 30 watt Kenwood 8180 with a Slim Jim antenna from kb9vbr hanging from a nail in the wall a few feet above the radio. It’s in a tested spot and we monitor most of the area 70CM repeaters as well, specifically during severe weather, and a few for local general chatter. In the shop I run the same radio setup with a J-pole from the same maker, but it’s about 10 feet above the shop roof. I run a 3rd 8180 (all K2’s with a split of 400-470) in the truck, (yeah I like em that much) if I’m not on a portable. Anyways, hope y’all enjoy the weekend. Have a great one!
As an aside: Been extremely happy with kb9vbr’s products as well as Smiley Antennas for the portables (not affiliated in any way, just appreciative of the antennas)
It’s just an LED desk lamp with a dimmer. sub $30 on amazon. gives me enough to work the keyboard when the room is dark. Also, heard you on the radio this evening, your just north of me in Del. You were making a fine trip. Welcome aboard.
WSDU803 here. Brand new to this and have a newly acquired TD-H3. I have chirp loaded up and have the radio on ch 19 in tone mode at 203.5. Did some radio checks last night on 19 but didnt get a response. Not sure if no one was listening/responding or if I was not hitting the repeater. Anyone got any advice on how to configure via chirp to ensure settings are correct to hit the repeater? I figured out how to navigate the FCC website so I’m not a complete idiot lol
ok heard some chatter earlier. after the chatter concluded, I tried to get a radio check but did not get a response. I have switched my radio to frequency mode at 462.65000 and configured the settings with the offset and PL tone (Tx CTCSS 141.3) and Rx open. Offset is +5. Operating at high power and wide band. When I radio test this way I cannot hear myself via my FRS radio. Still troubleshooting but any help for this nooby would be great. And I turned off my Roger so I am learning lol
Alright, still troubleshooting this. Figured out how to boot the handheld in “unlocked” mode. Was able to radio check from VFO (frequencymode instead of channel mode) and heard noises after the radio check but not voice confirming I was hitting the receiver.
Note: I drove to the homeland near the repeater to test from line of sight. Thanks for whomever it was that caught me over simplex. Taking a break for now and will try again from the house (<5 miles from repeater) later this evening. I will say the TD-H3 is giving me more trouble than I thought it would but you get what you pay for.
My time sitting in the Homeland parking lot near the repeater trying to configure this handheld paid off: I had a lovely conversation with WRQK729 from my back deck confirming I am now transmitting via the repeater!
I don’t know how the TD-H3 compares to other handhelds given it is my first GMRS radio, but I plan on documenting what I did to get it working with the repeater. If the club wants to post that here, awesome. If the community feels someone figuring these things out for yourself is a rite of passage, I understand and can align. Just great to know I can transmit via the repeater to weigh in about Braum’s ice cream combinations now!
Happy to be hear and hopefully I can contribute from time-to-time.
Glad you got it all figured out. You can use mygmrs.com to find the frequencies and ctcss tones for repeaters around the country where you might travel and have a ball that way. I’ve got most of the open repeaters programmed into my radio. It was fun hitting them and talking to people on my way down and through dallas a few weeks ago.
That’s a great idea. We like to road trip for our vacations and I have in laws in Arkansas we see from time-to-time. Definitely will keep this in mind next time we travel.

I am not sure I understand about your facebook page… The name is Oklahoma Amateur Radio Society. Primary reason I joined. What am I missing? I am not trying to be a smartass by any means, just confused. Thanks in advance.
I think I see the confusion, I posted that there because I noticed several members of that group were in a group with the same name as this website that got taken over by some people who want you to fund them playing “emergency responder”. We aren’t affiliated with that group other than they they me in and let me post there.

Hey, Hey! This is WRQK729. I got my license about 2 years ago, but just got a radio that could actually reach the repeater about a month ago… So… I apologize in advance for blowing up the airwaves, trying to figure it all out. Here’s my huge thanks for the owner and operator of the repeater!!!!
There are several people who’s efforts come together to make everything run as smooth as possible, include everyone who donates to the tower fund.
Enjoy the repeater. Use it as much as you like within the boundary of the fcc as they know.
Is there an avenue to donate without using PayPal or Cashapp? I kicked them to the curb when they decided they would take $2,500 from your account if they decided you’ve spreak “misinformation” online about biden or covid… Can I mail a check or drop off cash?

I’m really appreciating that ambient backlighting. What’s that setup and is it dynamic to match your wallpaper on the right monitor?

Thanks for the info and the warm welcome, neighbor!
I said Don but meant to call you out, neighbor! Newbie nerves!
Nice setup! Where did you get the angled radio mount for your base?
WRQK729
Tim, it’s a stock mounting bracket flipped upside down. https://www.pacparts.com/default.cfm carries a TON of stuff.

I have many Smiley ntennas, really good!!!
